Commissioning of vessel electrical systems

Well installed equipment is not yet ready equipment. Commissioning confirms that a system works as intended, safely, in the vessel's real operating conditions.

At a glance

  • Installation checks and de-energized tests
  • Controlled energizing and protection settings
  • Programming and functional tests in real conditions
  • Updated documentation and crew training
  • We also commission systems installed by others

Commissioning steps

  1. Installation check: wiring, terminations, grounding and labelling against the drawings.
  2. De-energized tests: continuity and megger insulation testing.
  3. Controlled energizing: voltages, protections and rotation direction.
  4. Programming and tuning: drive parameters, setpoints, timers and alarms.
  5. Functional tests: automatic and manual modes, fault scenarios, in real conditions.
  6. Documentation and training: updated drawings, test report and system walkthrough for the crew.

Why it matters

Good commissioning avoids surprises at sea. It catches wiring errors, unsuitable settings and badly adjusted protections while they are still easy to fix.

Whoever did the installation

Was the installation done by your crew or another supplier? We can still carry out testing and commissioning, dockside, in dry dock or during normal operations.

Frequently asked questions

Do you commission equipment installed by others?

Yes. We carry out testing and commissioning even when the installation was done by your crew or another supplier.

What documentation do you provide?

Updated drawings, the test report and the settings retained. We also walk the crew through the system.
